I’m 21 years old. I grew up with evolving social media and this is my opinion.
Social media is not only dangerous but has literally ruined everything for young people. Things like bullying, relationships, self confidence, laziness, etc.
Bullying is 10x worse than it used to be with social media. The whole school could know your business within a matter of seconds. Something hurtful/embarrassing can be posted on social media where it will live! FOREVER.
Relationships aren’t as meaningful anymore. The grass can look greener with another person and it’s only 1 message away with the help of social media. We could send some stranger naughty messages and our significant other would never know… Couples don’t spend genuine time together anymore. Each always looking at their phones while sitting right next to each other. People would rather text than actually speak and have a conversation. I could go on for hours about this one.
Self confidence has taken a huge impact for young people. This one has always been a problem. Seeing magazines with pictures of “perfect people” isn’t anything new. But social media has managed to make this issue worse. Anybody can look perfect with the help of a filter. It makes you feel extra bad about yourself when EVERYONE you know looks flawless live!.
We are growing up lazy. We scroll for hours and hours on tiktok or Instagram. We go crazy if our internet is slow. Heaven forbid not having cell phone service.
This is just everyday life now. It’s so normalized that nobody sees the issue. Children’s lives should not be filled with these problems. I sure wish mine wasn’t. But it’s too late now and it will never change ??♀️
